Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director and guidance of the Lead Teachers, the Instructional Support Assistant I is responsible for the educational program in the Child and Family Center, overseeing the health and safety of the children, implementing programming, providing needed administrative support, and other duties as assigned by the Center Director or Chair of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supports the supervision and oversight of toddler and preschool classroom
  • Coordinates the development of the education curriculum and outdoor classroom environment
  • Provides supervision to the student teachers or placement students
  • Performs administrative tasks and support
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages 18 months - 5 years. Ability to maintain a safe work environment.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Required: Equivalent to six (6) months of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing, or storing materials, supplies, and equipment. LiveScan is required due to working with children.

Preferred: Equivalent to one (1) year of teaching experience in a childcare setting for children ages 18 months - 3 years old, and 3 - 5 years old preferred. Experience in supervision of staff or student teachers preferred. Teaching experience in an NAEYC Accredited program preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Child Development/Family Studies or related field preferred
Licenses / Certificates

Current CPR/First Aid Certification required. Possession/In-process of Child Development Permit, Master Teacher Level, or higher, from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing preferred.

Compensation

The hiring range for this position is $3,338 to $3,500 per month, commensurate with experience. The salary range for this classification is $3,338 to $4,773 per month.

Time Base
