Gettysburg College seeks a dynamic and motivated professional candidate to serve in this 12-month, full-time position as the Assistant Director for Leadership Development in the Garthwait Leadership Center (GLC) to empower all students to practice ethical and effective leadership. This position also partners with the Eisenhower Institute (EI) to prepare students for leadership that strengthens democracy and civic engagement. This is a donor funded two-year position.

The Assistant Director position marks an unprecedented collaboration between two of the College’s distinctive programs, the GLC and EI, creating the structure and foundation for an integrated, impactful, hands-on learning experience for tomorrow’s leaders. The primary role of the Assistant Director, Leadership Development is to design and implement high impact learning experiences to empower Gettysburg students, employees, and young alumni to lead ethically and effectively.  

 The Assistant Director, Leadership Development will:

  • Hire, train, and supervise approximately twelve GLC student leaders 
  • Serve as the project manager for signature GLC programs such as the Gettysburg College Leadership Certificate and the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute 
  • Facilitate workshops and trainings for student and campus groups, including on the College’s 10,000 square foot Challenge Course 
  • Serve as the project manager for signature EI programs such as the Eisenhower Leadership Conference and the Summer Civic Engagement Camp 
  • Support the leadership programming for the Eisenhower Scholars program  

Applicants must be able to design and facilitate leadership development experiences for individuals and groups, supervise high achieving and motivated student leaders, design innovative curriculum for leadership development and civic engagement, and design and plan high impact events, programs, camps and conferences. This position must also be able to manage separate and joint projects, independently organize and manage projects and events from beginning to end, and work cross-departmentally with colleagues in support of the overall student experience.  

Qualifications - Successful candidates will have: 

 A Bachelors degree and at least one year of related professional experience is required. A Masters degree in a related field and experience with student leadership development and/or civic engagement is preferred. Interest in and the ability to empower and supervise student leaders, plan high impact learning experiences, and facilitate group process is highly desired. A desire to work collaboratively with others, promote civic engagement, and an appreciation of the outdoors is also desired. 

The Assistant Director for Leadership Development is a 12-month, full-time administrative appointment.  Salary is commensurate with experience and is complemented by an excellent benefits package.  Occasional remote work approved by the supervisor is permitted.
