Position Description: The Center for Character and Citizenship (CCC) is looking for a promising new Ph.D. to help advance its mission to engage in research, education and advocacy to foster the development of character, democratic citizenship and civil society. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding strategic thinker who has experience in developing and disseminating resources that inform and support the continuous development and practice of virtuous character. The candidate will have a good grasp of the character education landscape and is highly motivated to develop the professional network necessary for adding to the knowledgebase associated with character development. The ideal candidate will also possess exceptional attention to detail and a desire to deepen their understanding of the character education field.

Working closely with CCC leadership, this position will help promote campus-wide character education initiatives, research releases, innovative products, and community engagement. Through the lens of mentoring the next generation of character educators, this collaborative and impact-focused postdoctoral fellow, will work cross-departmentally to produce course materials for a year-long leader character development experience for UMSL students.
In addition to course development, this position also will assist with CCC’s thought leadership efforts including creating podcast series, paper proposals for conferences, identifying speaking opportunities, and assisting with increasing visibility around CCC’s character education work among educational leaders.

Primary Responsibilities:
* Collect and manage survey-based data sets; ensuring consistent coding of variables; maintain records related to study response rates and retention; perform data cleaning, data validation, and reporting tasks.
* Help to conceptualize study designs, investigate new methods to answer questions.
* Assist with the production of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
* Coordinate with other staff members in conducting analyses, preparing datasets for use by others, and facilitating communication among collaborators, when necessary.
* Develop and implement surveys, interact with contractors, manage quality control of data collection, and summarize research findings.
* Take ownership of grant deliverables by establishing intermediate and short-term goals, working a flexible schedule to achieve priorities,
* Analyze and/or help prepare analytic plans data using a variety of statistical methods including logistic and linear regression, longitudinal or multilevel analysis or other techniques.

Skills:
* Strong communication skills (oral, written, and technical communication skills) are highly valued. Must be able to clearly communicate ideas and results of analyses with researchers of various backgrounds.
* High level of organization, strong deductive reasoning skills, and attention to detailed documentation of data management and programming.
* Experience with programming and data management, along with knowledge of statistical research methodology and principles is desired.

Qualifications

Ph.D. or Ed.D. with no more than two years post-doctoral experience.
