Job Details

Wilkes University invites applicants for a nine-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Music – Bands position, which will begin in fall 2023. The responsibilities of this position include: directing the Civic and Jazz concert bands; overseeing recruiting efforts for all the instrumental ensembles; engaging in scholarly and creative activities; and participating in university service. In addition to directing and administering the instrumental ensembles, the successful candidate will be expected to serve the Division of Performing Arts based on need and candidate's area(s) of expertise; such as teaching courses in the music minor curriculum and other duties as appropriate. Instructional areas may include Music Theory, Music History, Music Direction of musical theater performances, etc.

A doctorate in music, or other applicable terminal degree is preferred, an MM with substantial experience may be considered. Experience directing concert and other bands at the university level is required, as is evidence of successful teaching and recruiting at the university level. The ideal candidate will also have experience with curriculum development. Please note that the department may also offer the position as a non-tenured Faculty of Practice, depending on qualifications and experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
