Director of COM Assessment and Analytics

Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, the Director of Assessment and Analytics will be responsible for developing and supporting best practices of data generation and management associated with assessment and planning within a medical curriculum. The position will routinely work with various offices across the university to promote best practices for data management and support for data governance initiatives. This position can work from either the Joplin or Kansas City campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assessment:
  • Supports learning outcomes assessment and the design of both formative and summative course assessments

  • Assists in the development of tools and measurements, including rubrics and survey questions, sampling approaches, and plans for equity-minded data analysis

  • Manages the collection, aggregation, and reporting of direct and indirect measures of student learning data

  • Provides analytical support to faculty and staff with the interpretation of assessment results in written and graphical forms

  • Directs the development and delivery of all college surveys including those used for evaluative purposes and research/scholarship

  • Oversees collection and access to learning and teaching data based on established federal and state policies, accreditation expectations, and University and College guidelines

  • Conducts routine needs analyses regarding college data (collection, sharing, reporting, etc.) policies and provide recommendations to senior leadership on where they can be improve

Data Management:
  • Leverages an advanced understanding of software features and basic programing skills to support data collection, analysis and storage
  • Analyzes user data needs and design tools to facilitate automation of data input, manipulation, output and reporting processes
  • Works collaboratively throughout the college/university to identify and evaluate data workflow needs, design and implement solutions as well as evaluate and ensure that proposed solutions meet users’ needs and address specific questions
  • Manages data collection processes in ensuring accuracy, validity, reliability and precision. Conduct data audits and reliability assessments
Analytics & Reporting:
  • Develops complex data models, queries, and custom reports for operational and analytical reporting.
  • Identifies and employs appropriate estimation and modeling methods for diverse, and multifactorial data using quantitative and qualitative approaches
  • Develops and maintains reports and data visualizations including development of dashboards
  • Collaborates with functional users to understand and analyze data reporting needs
  • Assists with and collaborates on student and faculty scholarly works including consultation regarding statistical analysis (publications and presentations)
Resource for Data Management Best Practices & Training:
  • Creates and maintains appropriate training modules for data users to facilitate standard data retrieval and report creation from software programs
  • Promotes inclusivity and interacts professionally with administrators, faculty, staff, and students
Support of Data Governance and Institutional Effectiveness:
  • Partners with institutional effectiveness, university technology, and other curricular leaders to standardize data processes across technology platforms to promote accurate data reporting from multiple sources
  • Ensures data security, privacy, confidentiality, and appropriate access through adherence to college, university and state/federal regulations
  • Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement and successful accreditation through ongoing review and refinement of existing data management solutions
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master's or PhD Degree preferred in Education, Social Science Research, Analytics, Bioinformatics, Statistics or a related field with 2 - 5 years of related experience – preferably in higher education
  • Understanding of accreditation, compliance, data security and best practice approaches to data management and utilization within a professional educational setting
  • Technical skills to extract and transfer data from a variety of systems and platforms
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, and the ability to utilize additional data tools which may include Tableau, PowerBI, and other common data management instruments
  • Proven ability to work well at a strategic level with faculty from multiple disciplines
  • Excellent analytical thinking and organizational skills, and attention to detail
