The School of Counseling and Well-being in the College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University ( https://appliedhumansciences.wvu.edu/academics/school-of-counseling-and-well-being ) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in clinical mental health and/or rehabilitation counseling. The position would begin August 11, 2023.

The position appointment is for the Morgantown campus beginning August 11, 2023. We are seeking a highly qualified individual who will contribute to the mission of the institution by working with faculty, learners, and community partners in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will: teach counseling courses in the School of Counseling and Well-being; publish high quality research; seek external research funding; and engage in service to the school, college, university, and profession.

Applicants should have a strong background and scholarly record in the area of counseling. We are especially interested in candidates whose research is complimentary to current faculty expertise.

Qualifications :
  • Hold a doctoral degree from a counselor education program at the time of appointment, or has a related doctoral degree and been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
  • Demonstrate the potential for, or evidence of, excellent teaching in university settings (on-campus and online).
  • Demonstrate the potential for, or evidence of, scholarly activity, publication, and success in obtaining external funding to support research activity.
  • Demonstrate the potential for, or evidence of, clinical supervision skills at the graduate level.
  • Experience with online course development and integration of innovative technology to enhance curriculum.
  • Show evidence of expertise in the areas of specialization in clinical rehabilitation counseling and clinical mental health counseling.
  • Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations; the maintenance of certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s); and, sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, professional service and advocacy in counseling, and research and scholarly activity in counseling
  • Anticipated Workload:
    • 40% Research and Scholarship, including high quality journal publications and pursuit of external funding related to productive research agenda.
    • 40% Teaching online and face-to-face courses, mentoring undergraduate and advising graduate students, contributing to program development.
    • 20% Service building and maintaining appropriate community connections, contributing to departmental, college, and university functioning related to shared governance.
