The Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling at Texas Tech University invites applications from innovative and thoughtful colleagues to join our faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor in School Psychology. This full-time, tenure-track position with a nine-month academic year appointment will start on September 1, 2023.

The Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling offers competitive graduate programs that are growing both nationally and internationally. The School Psychology doctoral and specialist-level programs are specializations within the Educational Psychology Program, that emphasize the design, implementation, and investigation of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices to address student learning, social-emotional development, behavioral performance, instructional methodology, school practices, and classroom management for all EC-12 students. School Psychology partners with area rural school districts to support intervention and mental health services, which offers unique opportunities for practicum and internship supervision, applied research, and support of diverse populations.
We are seeking highly qualified applicants who have expertise in school psychology with research emphases that can be supported in rural school environments. Applicants should demonstrate potential for collaboration with College of Education faculty from at least one other area, including STEM, bilingual education, leadership, or special education. Candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education faculty or those with experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse settings are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition, candidates who have strong records of scholarship and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities of the successful candidate:
● Teach school psychology courses at the master and doctoral levels, such as advanced academic assessment & intervention in schools; advanced child & adolescent psychopathology; assessment, ethics, standards & best practices in school psychology; consultation in schools; or other topics of the applicant’s interest.
● Supervise student research and practice in a manner that promotes their synthesis.
● Establish and maintain a rigorous research agenda.
● Seek extramural funding to support research and practice.
● Actively participate in service for the program, department, college, and university committees.
● Help the department build a strong program to be commensurate with the University’s mission as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
● Collaborate and cooperate with colleagues to fulfill the needs of the department’s and college’s strategic goals.
● Develop and foster partnerships with school districts, other colleges, and universities for engaged scholarship.
● Promote a collaborative, socially just environment.
Required Qualifications:
● A completed doctorate in school psychology, educational psychology with a specialization in school psychology, or another field of psychology with specialized training in school psychology by August 2023.
● Licensure (or license eligible) as Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) in the state of Texas.
● Demonstrated potential for or record of peer-reviewed publications and scholarship in school psychology.
● Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentorship at the graduate level.
● Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse, high-need populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Earned doctorate in school psychology (or related field) from an APA-accredited and/or NASP-approved program.
● Licensure (or license eligible) as Licensed Psychologist (LP) in the state of Texas.
● Experience working with children and youth in education settings, especially schools located in rural areas.
● Evidence (or strong potential) of effective teaching in higher education.
● Evidence (or strong potential) of mentoring and advising doctoral students.
● Evidence (or strong potential) of maintaining a rigorous research agenda in school psychology.
● Experience writing for extramural grant funding.
