Position Summary

This position is grant-funded through June 30, 2023.

The MER Navigator is responsible for providing a broad range of services and support to diverse educators in east Multnomah County school districts at Portland Community College. The Navigator works closely with the school districts to recruit diverse employees, community members and high school students to the teaching profession, specifically targeting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) individuals. The Navigator meets future educators and advises them wherever they are on the teacher pathway, whether they are in early exploration or enrolled at PCC or a university partner. The navigator recognizes systemic barriers and works to support and problem-solve with the educator candidate to ensure their long-term success.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a large case-load of clients /students in support of their educational goals (includes experience building a detailed academic plan and experience connecting clients to appropriate support agencies)
  • Demonstrated understanding of K-12 and Post-Secondary systems and how they interrelate
  • Demonstrated understanding of Financial Aid systems including FAFSA and ORSA
  • One or more years of experience teaching and curriculum development in K-12 and/or college
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of local programs working on transitioning youth and adults to college
  • Demonstrated experience working with first-generation college students
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (Note: Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.)
  • Two years of professional experience in an educational setting providing academic advising, career counseling, student retention/coaching, or related student services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in Counseling, Psychology (Counseling, Clinical, School, Applied, or Educational), Social Work, Applied Behavioral Science or Education

Starting Salary Expectations
$52,961 to $56,735 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work Environment

Work is performed in an office environment. Occasional evening and weekend hours required. Incumbents may travel to businesses or college fairs requiring the use of a personal vehicle.

Physical Requirements

Occasional lifting of boxes of catalogs and/or other college material which may weigh up to 50 pounds.
