The Department of Neural and Pain Sciences, University of Maryland School of Dentistry, is seeking a highly motivated basic science investigator at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. The position is supported by departmental grant funds to study physiological and cellular mechanisms contributing to chronic comorbid pain conditions. The Department of Neural and Pain Sciences is a vibrant multidisciplinary, highly collaborative and dynamic department, and founding member of the campus wide UM Center to Advance Chronic Pain Research (CACPR), which includes more than 20 researchers with established pain research labs from the schools of dentistry, nursing, medicine and pharmacy.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a PhD, DDS, or MD, a minimum of three years of postdoctoral experience, and a strong publication record. The candidate must have experience with animal models of chronic overlapping pain conditions that include temporomandibular disorders and other orofacial pains, irritable bowel syndrome, and fibromyalgia, and in vivo research skills including the development of animal models of comorbid pain, electrophysiology, genetic manipulation, and behavioral pain assays, which complement the areas of research and expertise within the department. Experience mentoring graduate students is essential, and qualified individuals should also have teaching experience in neuroscience and gross anatomy. Candidates will be expected to develop an innovative, extramurally funded research program, and significantly contribute to the educational mission of the department and School of Dentistry.

Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Position will be available until filled.
