Job Details

The Department of Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2023.

We seek a scholar with a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service grounded in feminist movements, theory, research and advocacy. Preferred specialization in feminist theory. Applicants should be trained in and have research and teaching experience in feminist, gender, sexualities, and/or women’s studies. The candidate should have a thorough grounding in various Women’s social, historical, cultural, and political perspectives and be committed to teaching and researching at the intersections of gender, race, and class. In addition to instructional duties, the successful candidate will advise students in the program, promote the program, and maintain connections to colleagues across campus.

In academic year 2021-2022, the departments of Ethnic & Racial Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, housed in the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, combined forces to enhance what was already a thriving and diverse community of scholars and activists. The new Department of Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies now houses a major and minor in Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and also leads the Social Justice minor, Hmong and Hmong American Studies certificate, and a Self-Sufficiency Program that serves the larger community in La Crosse and surrounding areas.

The successful candidate must be committed to excelling in undergraduate teaching; assisting in the development of courses and curricula in their area of expertise; and continuing or developing a line of research and scholarship in their area of expertise, which can include undergraduate student researchers. Candidates with diverse backgrounds and/or experience working with diverse populations and an interest in helping us build upon the department’s commitment to diversity (broadly defined) in its faculty, staff, and students, are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidate for this position should also be an educator with strong collaboration and communication skills who is committed to teaching excellence. A typical teaching load at UWL is 4/4.
