Job Summary

To conduct research within the area of building physics, energy and environment expertise to encourage the implementation of technologies associated with a building technology environment in domestic and commercial properties and contribute to the overall research performance of the Department by the production of measurable outputs, publishing in international academic journals and conferences, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students.

Essential Functions
  • Provide practice-based expertise from real projects where building technologies have been designed and implemented and have an awareness of necessary evaluation and modelling tools.
  • Enhance the collation of material for a review of systems approach at building and community scale.
  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research.
  • Undertake administrative tasks associated with research projects, including the planning and organization of the project and the implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Review and synthesize existing research literature within the field.
  • Participate in Department research activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate degree in Architecture, Physics, Engineering or related.
  • Proven ability to publish in international journals.
  • Effective and persuasive communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others to focus team efforts and motivate individuals.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
    • An established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within the field of building physics and the area of energy, environmental performance, building modelling, artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and/or indoor air quality.
    • Proven ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation, and team-working within work.
    • LEED, WELL, or related certification.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Evidence of collaborations with industry.
  • Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the higher education community.
  • Ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilize them to enhance the research activities.
  • Willingness to take responsibility for academically related tasks.
