Job Summary

The Phifer-Rixey Lab is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Phifer-Rixey to contribute to an NSF-funded project investigating urbanization in house mice using field, bench, and computational approaches. In addition, there is support available for the successful candidate to develop related projects in their area of interest. This is a one-year position with continuation after the first year based on availability of funds and performance.

Essential Functions
  • Contribute to field, laboratory, and computational research activities relating to evolutionary genetics in house mice including, but not limited to, sampling wild house mice, collecting trait data from wild house mice, extracting nucleic acids, generating next generation sequencing libraries, and analyzing next generation sequencing data in an evolutionary context
  • Contribute to organization and coordination of an interstate sampling and data collection program for wild house mice
  • General lab activities related to the project, including, but not limited to, ordering supplies, cleaning equipment, organizing waste disposal, recording activities in paper and electronic notebooks, and mentoring undergraduates
  • Curation of data and documentation of research activities and analysis
  • Travel for sampling and data collection
  • Contributing to the formal dissemination of research results via presentations, publications, and/or other media
  • Maintenance of sampling and data collection equipment and supplies
  • Assist with outreach and education related initiatives
  • Attend and present at regional and national scientific meetings. Coordinate with collaborators
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Biology or related field; Candidate must have met the requirements for conferral of a PhD (or equivalent international degree) before start date
  • Valid Driver’s license (U.S.A) or ability to obtain one within one month of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently in the field and the laboratory
  • Previous experience with field and/or laboratory research
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to work extended periods when sampling in the field
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds repeatedly

  • Typically standing, walking
  • Lifting demands ≤ 50lbs
