DESCRIPTION: Cal Poly Humboldt's Department of Dance, Music and Theatre invites applicants for a tenure-track
faculty position in Dance.

RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS: We seek to fill this position at the Assistant Professor rank; however, rank and salary are dependent on the appointee's qualifications and experience. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: An earned MFA or equivalent in Dance or related field from an accredited college or
university is required at the time of appointment.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

• Ability to teach at least two of the following: contemporary/modern, ballet, and/or jazz;
• Understanding and support of diverse styles such as African, Azteca, Hip hop, Middle Eastern, Mexican
  Folklorico, Tap, etc.
• Experience in dance production, direction, and management;
• Strong organizational leadership and administrative skills;
• Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education;
• Demonstrated success in choreography for contemporary/modern, ballet, and/or jazz in a theatrical setting;
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse students and colleagues;
• Interest and ability to teach a broad range of courses (major, general education, etc.);
• Interest and potential for success in recruitment and interaction with private dance studios and high school and community-college dance programs; and
• Demonstrated ability to advise and mentor students from minoritized groups in higher ed.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

• Ability to teach contemporary/modern, ballet, and jazz;
• Ability to teach at least one of the following dance genres: African, Azteca, Hip hop, Middle Eastern, Mexican
  Folklorico, or Tap;
• Ability to develop choreography that contributes to the understanding of diversity and equal opportunity;
• Demonstrated success in administrative and leadership skills and dance production, direction, and management;
• Two or more years demonstrated success teaching dance in a university program;
• Record of building a successful dance program;
• Demonstrated success in teaching choreographic skills to students;
• Demonstrated ability and performance experience at the advanced skill level for ballet, modern/contemporary,
  or jazz:
• Ability to develop, implement, and assess curriculum in ways that advance equitable and inclusive learning
  communities; and
• Commitment to participating in professional development opportunities that build effectiveness in areas of
  inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing diversity.

Working in the state of California is a condition of employment for this position. Even if part or all of an employee's assignment can be performed remotely, the employee must maintain a permanent residence in the state of California. The employee must be able to accept on-campus instruction, as assigned, and come to campus when needed.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong record of service as well as scholarship and creative activities. Instructional assignments may include: Dance in World Cultures, Ballet I and II, Contemporary/Modern I/II/III, Jazz I/II, Choreography and Rhythmic Analysis, Choreography II, Dance
Production, Teaching of Dance or other courses depending upon the skills of the candidate. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship, and creative activity; and service to the University, professional and to the community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide communities, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary faculty are typically provided ongoing mentorship to be a successful member of the faculty. During the first two years of the probationary period, teaching responsibilities will be reduced by approximately one course each semester. The reduced teaching load supports the establishment of research, scholarship and/or creative activities required for retention, tenure, and promotion.

Cal Poly Humboldt also continues to build unique and innovative learning opportunities for students, bridging the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities. Humboldt is a leader in “learning communities” that build relationships between students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community. GENERAL INFORMATION: The Dance Program is a small, hands-on program dedicated to supporting our students'
diverse needs and interests. We offer a variety of academic courses and dance styles to study, with multiple
opportunities to perform, collaborate and choreograph. Our students receive a thorough education in the practice,
history, theory and language of dance as an art form, including projects that challenge students to explore topics such as
social justice, equality and diverse cultures. Our curriculum prepares students for viable careers in dance, dance-related

Cal Poly Humboldt sits on the traditional homelands of the Wiyot people in what is currently called Arcata, CA. The Wiyot people call the area Goudi'ni (over in the woods). The Cal Poly Humboldt campus in Northern California is in close proximity to several thriving Native American tribes and communities. Humboldt currently has the largest percentage of Native American students in the CSU system and has over 30 Native American faculty and staff many from local area California Indian tribes. Humboldt is home to a number of leading Native American programs including the Indian Tribal Education and Personnel Program (ITEPP) and the Indian Natural Resource, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP). There are also many opportunities at Humboldt to conduct research, teaching and community work on Native American history and cultures in Special Collections at the Cal Poly Humboldt library.
