The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice in the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University invites applications for a non-tenure-track lecturer position in the program of criminal justice. The Criminal Justice B.A. Program has a 36-credit hour curriculum and currently serves 222 majors and minors.
Seton Hall is an archdiocesan university with a combined undergraduate and graduate student body of approximately 10,000 students. Lecturer positions are initially appointed for a one-year term. Subsequent Lecturer contracts may be extended to three-year terms. Lecturers who have served the University for a period of at least five full academic years may apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will be expected to teach four
criminal justice courses at the undergraduate level per semester
with possible course releases for administrative duties.
- The faculty is expected to be proficient in academic advising
and student mentoring, program and curricular development, and
participate in the department and college service activities
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, or sociology with
preliminary or comprehensive exam in criminal justice or
criminology preferred.
- ABD candidates in criminology, criminal justice, sociology and
those with terminal degrees in related disciplines will also be
considered
- Demonstrated record of undergraduate teaching experience in
criminal justice and criminology
Desired Qualifications:
- Work experience in criminal justice as police, parole,
probation, correctional officers, or in the
victim/witness/protection offices
- Teaching experience in courses including but not limited to,
victimology, legal studies, introduction to criminal justice,
comparative criminal justice, police, homeland security, or
quantitative research methods; or have practical expertise or
potential in teaching courses in these areas.
- Previous experience in student advising and service that
supports an equitable and diverse academic environment.
- Able to develop online and hybrid modes of course
delivery.
- Ability to collaborate with other university programs such as
Police Studies and Homeland Security
