The Florida Atlantic University (FAU) School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) invites applications for the position of School Director to begin July 2023 on the Boca Raton campus. The Director is appointed by the Dean of the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice and is responsible for establishing the academic priorities and setting intellectual standards for the SCCJ. The Director will be visionary and aspirational about the School’s future, cultivating and enhancing the scholarly excellence of the SCCJ. Additionally, they will oversee all the SCCJ’s programs, maintain and expand community partnerships, promote discipline engagement, and work in collaboration with faculty. Research and teaching areas of specialization are open. This position is a full-time, 12-month appoint-ment and may include other duties, including campus activities, as assigned. A current rank of Professor is preferred.

The College of Social Work and Criminal Justice is a partnership between the SCCJ and the Sandler School of Social Work. Our intention is to reimagine our professions, promote multidisciplinary education and research, address a wider spectrum of societal needs, and champion systemic change through scholarship, teaching, and service. Our School offers a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree, a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice degree, and a 5-year combined BA/MS degree program in Criminology and Criminal Justice. The SCCJ is also home to the parale-gal and legal nurse consulting certificate programs. The undergraduate degree program is the third largest program, by enrollment, at FAU and our programs offer a culturally rich educational environment through a host of diverse delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid/blended formats. School initiatives include a decision-making simulation lab, community engaged research, study abroad, high school summer camps, a fully online under-graduate degree program, research colloquia, and research partnerships with the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. The SCCJ is comprised of fourteen tenure-track/tenured faculty and five full-time instructors, along with ad-junct instructors, and a program assistant.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice or allied field is required. A Juris Doctorate alone is not sufficient. Candi-dates will have extensive academic experience with an exemplary record of scholarship, teaching, and service. Only candidates who meet the specified criteria will be contacted. The primary responsibilities of the Director include providing administrative and intellectual leadership, oversight of the School’s academic programs and budgets, and support for faculty, staff, and undergraduate and graduate students. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated
experience promoting a climate of collaboration, transparency, and shared governance. Qualified applicants will have academic leadership experience, which may include a record of success in sponsored research, and the ability to ef-fectively communicate within the School, College, University, and broader community. Additionally, an ambitious approach to enhancing school programming and resources, establishing partnerships with donors and other external organizations, being a visible and active representative of our School and College in South Florida and beyond, and mentoring junior and mid-career faculty is expected.

Transcripts will be requested from applicants who are selected for interviews. Degrees from outside the United States must be validated by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dis-sertation abstracts). The evaluation should be scanned and electronically attached to the application. An unofficial transcript may be used during the hiring process to assure that the prospective faculty member is properly creden-tialed for university level teaching in area(s) of expertise and other relevant courses. An official transcript sent di-rectly from the institution is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of class.
