The School of Literatures, Cultures & Linguistics (SLCL) is searching for a Linguistics data analytics manager who will manage statistical techniques and the development of data analytics that support the research of faculty and graduate students affiliated with SLCL linguistics laboratories.
 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Advise, collaborate, and consult with faculty and graduate student researchers on the appropriateness and implementation of statistical modeling and other data analytic techniques to support their research projects. Serve as a mentor to graduate students whose research data and analysis will generate conference submissions and publications. Collaborate with faculty and graduate student researchers in the development and execution of externally-funded linguistics research projects. Function as a PI, Co-PI or consultant on NSF and NIH grants as appropriate. Conduct workshops for faculty and graduate students on procedural programming languages, statistical techniques, and data analytics. Offer advanced workshops that generate research output in collaboration with faculty and graduate student researchers. Provide support to faculty and graduate student researchers in procedural programming languages (e.g., Python, R. Matlab) relating to faculty and graduate student on-going research projects.  Research, identify, and implement new approaches to and methods for the statistical analysis of (applied) linguistic data. Serve on Ph.D. dissertation committees when focus is relevant to (applied) linguistic data analytics. Teach special-topic course on research methods in quantitative (applied) linguistics as needed by the School.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in linguistics data science or closely related fields, (e.g., neuroscience, psychology. speech and hearing science - with a concentration in (applied) linguistics or speech-related research). Experience in implementing statistical models in R; experience providing statistical consultations for researchers.

Preferred Qualifications
PhD in linguistics or closely related fields. (e.g., neuroscience, psychology, speech and hearing science -with a concentration in (applied) linguistics or speech-related research). Previous work in a laboratory setting, preferably from within applied linguistics.
Successful candidates will have the following:
Advanced statistical modeling; knowledge of procedural programming languages relevant to statistical modeling (e.g., Python, Matlab, and/or R). Basic statistical foundation (assumptions of bias, t-tests, correlation, regression, etc.). Ability to work with both structured and unstructured data. Basic project management skills and knowledge. Basic data visualizations skills. Understanding of machine learning and its applications. Strong data visualization skills. Demonstrated effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences. Commitment to diversity and inclusion. Ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff, and students from a wide variety of disciplines. Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a research team.

 

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
