Position Summary and Responsibilities:

VCU's Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and the Mid-Atlantic Twin Registry (MATR) invites all interested candidates to apply for hourly Research Interviewer positions (we will be hiring 4 new staff members) to join the MATR team. Research Interviewers will conduct telephone interviews which will largely be computerized but may be on paper as well. The interviewer’s primary tasks will be contacting adult twins and parents of juvenile twins to invite them to register with the MATR or participate in specific research projects. These studies are conducted on a wide-range of health and behavioral-related topics. After training, MATR interviewers will be knowledgeable about current research projects and will be able to answer participant questions relating to each study, (or refer the question to their Supervisor). Interviewers will conduct telephone calls and work with the MATR Interviewer Supervisor to resolve any issues related to participant inquiries, questions or complaints. MATR interviewers will complete training specific to human research subject’s protection and receive extensive training on the MATR’s confidentiality policy for protecting a participant’s right to privacy. These regulations will need to be upheld at all times when conducting research or contacting participants. This position may require some evening and/or weekend hours and involves working in a secure research environment with confidential data. Perform other duties to support MATR goals/MATR staff as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Candidate should be reliable, responsible and proactive.
Able to work in a professional academic environment following protocols closely and adhering to confidentiality and privacy practices.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google (gmail/calendar), and video platforms like Zoom.
Previous “customer-facing” based support, including excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills.
Exceptional communication skills, ability to communicate professionally via email and by phone.
Close attention to detail and ability to create accurate documentation notes.
Strong time management skills.
Ability and eagerness to learn and advance skills.
The candidate should have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in the social sciences or in health and behavioral research.
Clinical interviewing skills.
Knowledge of basic twin information.
Ability to work independently but also in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to easily adapt to change.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, potentially up to 29 hrs/week.

Salary Range: $20.00/hour
