Position Summary

This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position, in the department of Biology Department.  The primary responsibility of this position is to teach upper and lower division courses in the discipline. 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, or related field. 
  • Interest in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and a commitment to the mission of the institution. 
  • Research program compatible with full participation of undergraduates. 
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate research. 
  • Interest and ability to develop one or more new courses of interest to the department, including but not limited to courses in developmental biology, cancer biology, virology, bacteriology, pharmacology or human genetics 
  • Post-doctoral research experience in cell and molecular biology (or related field) or equivalent post-graduate experience in related field. 
  • Willingness to apply for extramural funding to support undergraduate research or curricular components related to undergraduate research. 
Major Responsibilities
  • Teaching load is twelve contact hours per semester. 
  • Teaching responsibilities may include the following courses and/or associated labs: Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology (BIO113), Genetics (BIO260), Molecular Biology (BIO270) Advanced Cell Biology (BIO381) or Advanced Microbiology (BIO331) and/or other courses within the major.  
  • Maintain an active program of scholarship and disciplinary engagement. 
  • Participate in departmental and College governance and professional service.  
  • Engage authentically with students, the department and colleagues.    
  • Safely operate and model proper use of lab equipment.  
  • Take responsibility for all grading of student work and submitting grades at the end of each semester. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities. 
  • Instructors who are assigned courses in a distance format (hybrid, online, HyFlex) must have either 1) had formal professional development in online curricular design and instruction, or 2) must complete FLC’s institutional training within the first term of teaching in a distance format.
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508. 
  • Produce and remediate digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation

The salary is $56,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package .The anticipated start date is in August 2023.
