Job Summary
Oversee daily operation of laboratory facilities.

Due to the Governor's approval for the Cost of Living Adjustment to Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023, final salaries at the time of hire may be impacted, but will not be lower than what is advertised.

Responsibilities
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Prepare materials for standardized biology labs: DNA extraction reagents, PCR reagents, bacteriological media, buffers, standards, and solutions
  • Ensure safety regulations and policies are being adhered to within assigned labs to include proper PPE, chemical inventory, and waste disposal
  • Purchase laboratory materials for assigned courses and follow p-card policies and procedures
  • Inventory office supplies and order items as needed
  • Assist in maintaining the stock room and ensure stock items are ordered and delivered in a timely fashion
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure delivery dates are within appropriate time frames
  • Liaison with Biology Administrative Coordinator to work within each courses allocated semester budget and receive the necessary approvals in a timely fashion
  • Maintain current training, ensure the security of assigned University purchase card, follow proper procedure for approval and purchase of items not available in the eprocurement system, and reconcile purchases, receipts, and packing slips monthly
  • Receive items in the eprocurement system promptly to ensure invoices are paid expediently
  • Procure quotes for large quantities and large ticket items from approved vendors to ensure budgets are utilized efficiently
  • Coordinate with course coordinators to manage and spend their laboratory fee allocations each semester
  • Train and supervise student assistants
  • Coordinate and train graduate teaching assistants in the assigned courses
  • Track assigned lab courses each semester and schedule preparation of materials to provide efficient delivery of laboratory content
  • Coordinate with instructors to ensure that all materials necessary for laboratory courses are available and in inventory
  • Maintain annual review of laboratory prep notes and coordinate with instructors to add and remove details as lab materials and needs change
  • Coordinate with instructors to research and test new protocols and products as lab materials and needs change
  • Coordinate annual equipment inventory in assigned spaces
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with service providers to ensure equipment is safe and in proper working order
  • Work within the EHS Assistant (Environmental Health Safety) program to maintain chemical inventory and discard hazardous waste as necessary
  • Ensure all chemicals, chemical solutions and waste are properly labeled
  • Manage the setup of assigned standardized biology laboratories and ensure materials are restocked and available to multi-section courses

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree

Required Experience
  • Two (2) or more years of related work experience

Proposed Salary
$45,200 - $46,629.95

This position is non-exempt and paid on a biweekly basis.
