Job Description:

The Tony-award winning UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a professional theatre company in residence at Southern Utah University, is accepting applications for Production Staff for the 2023 season. The Utah Shakespeare Festival produces a seven-show repertory season and three Greenshows across four venues in the summer/fall of each year. Position details below.

Contract dates vary by position. Most build contracts begin April/May and end June/July. Run contracts Begin in May/June and end September/October. Please check dates in specific job descriptions.

- Charge Scenic Artist: Contracts begin April 23 and run through end of July 15. Participation in virtual design meetings and prep may be required prior to in person work with Festival Charge Artist (40 hrs)

- Scenic Artist: Contracts begin April 23 and run through end of July 15.

- Junior Painter/Stage Crew: Contracts begin April 30th and run through September 12 or October 14 depending on assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Charge Scenic Artist: Oversees assigned scenic artists, and leads the scenic application of texture, three-dimensional sculpting and scenery painting for assigned productions. Coordinates with Festival Scenic Charge on scheduling, techniques used, purchasing of supplies and equipment.

- Assistant Charge Scenic Artist: Assists charge artist with overseeing assigned scenic artists, scenic application of texture, three-dimensional sculpting and scenery painting for assigned productions. Coordinates with Scenic Charge on scheduling, techniques used, purchasing of supplies and equipment.

- Scenic Artist: Responsible for painting and finishing of all scenic elements for assigned productions.

- Junior Painter/Stage Crew: Responsible for painting and finishing of all scenic elements for assigned productions. Responsible for running, storage, and maintenance of paints for assigned productions. Will be part of Stage Crew and the Changeover Crew as shows open and participate in working shows and changeovers.

Education and Experience Requirements:

All positions: Intermediate and advanced experience with scenic painting and finishing or related field. Must be comfortable using ladders, scaffolding, and personnel lifts. Basic knowledge of typical scenery and paint specific tools.

- Charge Scenic Artist: Experience leading crews of scenic artists, planning, scheduling, and budgeting. Experience developing paint and finishing techniques for theatrical scenery is required.

- Assistant Charge Scenic Artist: Experience leading crews of scenic artists. Experience developing paint and finishing techniques for theatrical scenery is a plus.
