Job Description

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Computer Science beginning Fall 2023. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline by the time of the appointment. Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications.

The Department of Computer Science strives to provide and promote the highest quality of research and teaching in computer science and its related areas, as well as to provide outreach and service to the campus, to the community, to the state of Missouri, and to the nation. Our mission is to promote the creation and application of state-of-the-art computational models and technologies as well as to provide students with opportunities to advance careers and become productive members of the local and global society. Our mission is also to help create new knowledge, by fostering computational science research – foundational and applied – that will lead to improving the quality of life for all.

At present, the department has 14 full-time faculty members and a number of graduate teaching and research assistants. The department offers Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Computing Technology, Cybersecurity, and Data Science; Master’s degrees in Computer Science and Cybersecurity; and Ph.D. in Mathematical and Computational Sciences. The department has close to 500 undergraduate majors and close to 100 graduate students.

Qualifications

We are looking for a colleague with ability to conduct outstanding research, and with a strong commitment to teaching a diverse student body at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates in all areas of Computer Science will be considered, with preference given to candidates with research interests aligned with those of current faculty (mostly AI and Cybersecurity).
