PLACEMENT: Clerical, grade 6t
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $16.47 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides a variety of clerical, proctoring, intake, placement and assessment services for current/prospective ESL, ABE, and ASE adult education students at various site locations to include Romeoville, City Center, and Morris Education Center. Requires a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and an occasional weekend day.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide exceptional customer service and user support to all visitors including students, faculty, staff, and community members/external customers. Answer phone inquiries, take messages, make calls and provide information and assistance.
2. Assist students in completing registration forms and determining appropriate testing.
3. Complete registration procedure for each student (intake, goals, class assignment).
4. Administer appropriate placement assessment tests to all students in paper/pencil or online testing modalities.
5. Confer with students and assign to appropriate classes based on students’ scores on assessment test.
6. Work closely with Adult Education staff to ensure that students are tested with the proper test and placed in the proper class.
7. Work closely with Testing Services staff to conduct online assessment testing at JJC campus and offsite locations.
8. Monitor number of students in each class and keep accurate records of students’ testing information.
9. Administer and score pre and post-testing for Adult Education students both paper/pencil as well as online testing.
10. Contact students by phone and email regarding class start dates and registration dates.
11. Conduct orientations for new adult education students.
12. Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Two (2) years of general office experience
3. Strong computer and Internet skills.
4. Working knowledge of modern office practices, machinery, and procedures.
5. Attentiveness to detail, strong organizational skills, initiative, and multitasking ability.
6. Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism, discretion, and impartiality.
7. Excellent Customer Service skills; strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability and willingness to work cooperatively with a diverse population.
8. Vehicle to travel between college campuses/centers and a valid driver’s license.
9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Knowledge of Colleague and Daisi Reporting Systems.
2. Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
3. Experience with TABE and CASAS placement tests.
4. Two (2) years of experience in detail-oriented customer service environment.
5. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
6. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal office physical demands.
2. Ability to travel to sites throughout the district.
3. Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and an occasional weekend day.
4. Ability to remain calm and organized when testing and tutoring traffic increases.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual office environment.
