The Department of Computer Science, Engineering, & Mathematics at University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) offers Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Science and is in the process of establishing a concentration in data science. Our rapidly growing department invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position in computer science to begin on August 16, 2023, with a focus on data science.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field by August 16, 2023, with expertise and interest in data science; potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate level using engaged learning strategies appropriate to the discipline and level (normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester); and demonstrated scholarly productivity. Successful candidates must have the qualifications and interest in teaching a wide range of data science related courses. Additional experience in other areas such as AI and Cyber is a plus. Candidates are expected to keep an active research group involving undergraduate students and seek external funding. Salary commensurate with qualifications and teaching experience.

USC Aiken has the “power of proximity” and is partnering with Fort Gordon (only 20 miles from USC Aiken), the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) (only 15 miles from USC Aiken), and other South Carolina entities. There are significant synergistic activities that make this position truly unique in South Carolina and throughout the southeast.

  • The U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) has a partnership with USC Aiken.
  • A $50 million Department of Energy Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative (AMC) research building will be built on campus that will focus on cybersecurity and other cutting-edge STEM technologies.

This is an exciting opportunity to help grow and shape our computer science program and our partnerships at USC Aiken. Faculty in this position will have the opportunity to collaborate with and develop faculty- student research projects with our industry and government partners.
