This position serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the
College's payroll process for managers and payroll preparers and
serves as a "help desk technician" for the College's electronic
time keeping system. This position is responsible for moderately
complex duties associated with the processing and completing of
payroll transactions for the entire college. This includes the
processing, reconciling, reporting and analysis of bi-monthly
payrolls; maintaining and utilizing an electronic time keeping
system; researching complex tax and benefits reporting
requirements; interpreting and implementing college, state, local
and federal policies and procedures pertaining to payrolls and
benefits. Responsible for implementing college approved increases
(Cost of Living Adjustments, Educational, etc.). The jobholder also
provides internal audit reviews of selected transactions and
assists with the College's internal control review process. The
jobholder plays a pivotal role during the closing process of each
quarter, fiscal year, and calendar year under very strict
deadlines.

Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution required
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution and 4 years of experience in accounting or payroll required
- Associates degree in accounting, finance, business or related field and 2 years of experience in accounting or payroll required.
Experience Required:
- A minimum of two years of related experience processing payroll, payroll taxes and employee benefits in a computerized environment along with direct deposit of payrolls.
Experience Preferred:
- NC Community College experience preferred.
- Experience with contracts and benefits for educational institutions or medium to large size employer; hourly and salaried payrolls; and deferred compensation plans considered a plus.
- Experience using Ellucian Colleague preferred.
