The Nursing program at Helena College is recognized for well prepared and educated registered nurses and practical nurses, many of whom accept nursing jobs at the varied healthcare facilities in and around Helena, specifically St. Peter’s Health, Fort Harrison VA, and Shodair.

This staff position reports to the Director of Nursing, the Nursing Simulation and Skills Lab Specialist II will be responsible for simulation-based education across the nursing curriculum. This position will collaborate with the nursing faculty to create and facilitate course specific simulation scenarios to supplement student learning.

This academic year position serves as the developer, implementer, and consultant for faculty and students within the simulation lab environment. This position will oversee the use and operations of the simulation learning resources, including simulation and skills lab spaces, equipment, and supplies. Equipment includes, but is not limited to both high and mid-level fidelity, as well as several static manikins and task trainers.

The Simulation /Skills lab will augment clinical experiences for our nursing students across the curriculum, offering students an opportunity to practice in various simulated situations in a controlled learning environment. This position will oversee the use and operations of the simulation learning resources, maintain lab organization, and order and stock supplies.

May include teaching skills lab course(s) not to exceed 3-6 credits per semester.

The successful candidate will assure the effective and efficient operation of the lab, assess and provide for meeting program and student needs, and oversee the operation of all high-fidelity technology to ensure safe and effective use of simulation equipment.

Responsibilities



Simulation Lab Management
  • Prepares and administers meaningful learning experiences, including but not limited to course labs, Clinical skill practice labs, skill competency testing sessions, simulated clinical experiences to augment clinical practice, and other faculty-identified laboratory learning experiences, to both RN and PN students
  • Collaborates with faculty to integrate simulation experiences into their nursing curriculum and leads debriefing discussions after simulation activities
  • Continuously updates and refines simulation scenarios/experiences to maintain content accuracy and relevance. Serves as a resource for the faculty using simulation in classroom/lab activities
  • Monitors and schedules the use of simulation rooms and equipment
  • Orients clinical resource RNs (CRRNs) and instructors in Sim lab procedures, use of materials, and operation of equipment
  • Work with Nursing Program Director to grow simulation program/usage over the next few years
Simulation Equipment, Technology Maintenance and Lab Supply Oversight
  • Assures that equipment is functioning properly and makes the necessary referrals to assure equipment is maintained to prolong useful equipment life expectancy
  • Troubleshoots any technical issues that arise with the simulation equipment and contacts/coordinates with manufacturer about any issues
  • Monitors the coordination and scheduling of simulation & lab rooms
  • Responsible for cleaning manikins after use and at semester end. Ensures appropriate standards of lab cleanliness, equipment/manikin maintenance, updates, repair and replacement
  • Obtains, stocks, and restocks supplies for each room. Monitors supply levels, assure supplies are ordered in a timely fashion, and stays in budget
  • Collaborates with IT department to ensure all Sim technology is kept updated
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience as a registered nurse within acute care settings to be able to replicate critical care, acute care, and long-term care situations across the life span
  • Unencumbered license to practice in the State of Montana as a Registered Nurse required
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours (mix of split shifts, days, evenings and occasional weekends)
  • Commitment to and a passion for simulation in nursing education
  • Ability to work as a team member to coordinate learning experiences between lab/simulation and classwork
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • High energy, dedication to nursing students, and commitment to nursing education
Preferred:
  • Master of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Prior work experience in the clinical setting with 1-3 years of experience in simulation and teaching in skills labs
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or willing to get certified within 5 years
  • Prior experience in nursing education and or simulation preferred
  • Teaching experience in two-year-college
  • Experience with basic computer operations and networking, video recording for debriefing, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and electronic medical records. Experience with Office 365/Microsoft and EHRgo preferred
Salary Information

$24.660 - $30.825 hourly
