Overview

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is seeking an IT Manager to provide hardware and software support to a department with 38 full-time faculty, 20 administrative and technical staff, 257 graduate students and 50 researchers. The IT Manager reports to the ECE Department Manager and works with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Support for Computing under the Academic Departments (SCAD) program. In addition to supporting laptop/desktop computing equipment, the incumbent will also support the deployment of research servers.



Responsibilities

    Support the desktop/end user computing equipment deployments utilizing remote management, including configuration, maintenance, troubleshoot and repair for both Mac and Windows desktops/laptops Fulfill all work requests submitted via Service Now in the department, including remediate security issues related to compromises and viruses Provide guidance for faculty (faculty computing program) and staff on their computing purchases; install and configure all new computer systems to meet OIT standards, printers, scanners, mobile devices, etc. Also applies to computer purchases for researchers related to their research programs. Support research servers (currently 10 Linux and Windows servers) housed at both the HPCRC and at the on-site research labs, including the installation of applications, troubleshooting, and the setup of network storage devices and cloud backup services. Maintain shared departmental file resource for administrative staff adhering to a high level of data quality and security Support all software including Microsoft Office productivity applications and University administrative applications Maintain department electronic mailing lists. Configure and maintain backups of all computing systems Active Directory and Windows server administration Setup, configurate and troubleshoot MS Exchange and Outlook issues Maintain detailed reports of TSM/CrashPlan backup audits, system lifecycles, software versioning and technology assets Educate/train faculty and staff on proper computing techniques and resources Support in-house databases and inventory system Attend monthly SCAD/DCS meetings and participate in relevant training opportunities Monitor and maintain audio/video equipment in classroom and meeting rooms Assist faculty in utilization of classroom equipment including but not limited to slide projectors, CD & DVD players, monitors, laptops and other visual aide devices Prepare equipment for surplus Represent the department on IT related matters Support Department Manager on special projects as needed



Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

    5+ years of advanced technical support experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or related work experience.
  • Must be capable of providing reliable and creative solutions to support a demanding academic environment. Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, speaking and writing skills are a must. Dedication to quality customer service standards and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The successful candidate must have experience and certification in MS Windows and Apple hardware/software administration, maintenance and support of the following systems:
      Mac OS 10.14 - Mac OS 13 Windows XP/7/8.1/10/11 Jamf remote management InTune remote management McAfee Antivirus ePO Falcon Crowdstrike Princeton Virtual Desktop Azure Virtual Desktop Drupal WordPress Sharepoint Open Scholar Adobe Suite VMware Fusion/Workstation
    Position may require occasional evening and/or weekend activities.

Preferred Qualifications

    Certifications and experience in the following systems and support are preferred and helpful:
      Microsoft Solutions, 365 & Azure Fundamentals Light to medium programming along with scripting knowledge. Code proficiency – Javascript, Python, PHP/MySQL Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, Red Hat, CentOS) Apple Technical & Support Dell (Printers, Desktops, Notebooks), CompTIA Mobility, A+ Remote Support, Network CISSP/Cybersecurity training/certification ACE/AMX Installer Designer Certified Windows PowerShell ITIL V4 Project Management
    Previous experience or equivalent relevant experience with a university setting as a systems/server administrator.
