Description

New York University Abu Dhabi, Engineering Division, and the Mechanical Engineering program are accepting applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the Associate Professor level, with the title of Clinical Associate Professor, to begin in September 2023. The appointed faculty member will be part of the Mechanical Engineering program. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Senior Capstone program for all the Engineering Division disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, computer, civil & urban, and bio engineering. The clinical professor will teach both undergraduate and graduate classes, primarily in the areas of Thermal-Fluid Sciences and Thermal Systems. The faculty member will be expected to teach the equivalent of 4 classes per academic year, with commensurate course relief for responsibilities associated with coordination of capstones. A commitment to creative, engaging content and course materials is required. There may also be advisement and related opportunities and expectations. The faculty member will also be expected to be professionally engaged in research and pedagogy.

This position is a multi-year limited-term, non-tenure track appointment. Salary will be provided for the 9-month academic year, paid in 12 monthly installments. Possibilities of additional support in the summer include summer classes, and various administrative roles.

Qualifications

Applicants for the position must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering with at least five years of academic or relevant industry experience.

Experience with mentoring and training students is preferred.

Prior experience with managing design capstones for undergraduates is a plus, as is expertise in USA ABET assessment and accreditation.

It will also be advantageous for candidates to have expertise and/or experience in regards to accreditation activities with The Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) in the UAE.

We anticipate that successful candidates can start the appointment and relocate to Abu Dhabi in the academic year 2023-2024, subject to final budget approval.
