At this pivotal moment in the University’s history, Colgate is seeking an Assistant/Associate Director of Planned Giving to play an integral role in supporting the Planned Giving and Advancement teams. This position is accountable for the proper execution, recording and administration of planned gifts, tracks overall planned giving outcomes, supports fundraising staff with planned giving proposals, processes gifts-in-kind, and is responsible for understanding gift acceptance policies and the stewardship of planned gifts .The successful candidate will possess strong communication and customer service skills, the ability to collaborate with a variety of internal and external entities, must be accurate and detail oriented, and possess relevant skills that can include experience in fundraising, administration, financial services, bookkeeping, or legal areas.

Accountabilities

Level of appointment will be determined by experience and education level.

Accountable for the proper execution and administration of planned gifts. Ensures planned gifts are accurately accounted for, properly received and correctly documented. Accountable for providing expert advice on technical aspects of planned giving, including acceptance of gifts-in-kind. Responsible for stewardship of planned gifts.

Professional Experience/ Qualifications
  • At least three years of professional experience in fundraising, non-profit administration, bookkeeping, accounting, legal, financial or related fields
  • Outstanding skills in oral and written communication
  • Familiarity or aptitude for tax law
  • Ability to connect well with volunteers
  • Must be well organized and a self-starter
  • Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of constituents on a daily basis
Preferred Qualifications

Planned Giving. legal, and/or fundraising experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience from which similar skills have been attained.
