General Statement

Montana State University Billings is the third largest University in Montana and is located in Montana’s largest city. The University Campus and City College together are home to approximately 5,000 students. The university has five colleges, which offer a wide variety of degree programs to its students. Montana State University Billings employs approximately 500 employees, who together work hard to create an outstanding university.

The city of Billings, MT is a community of approximately 109,000 people located between rugged mountains and sweeping plains. As the largest city in Montana, Billings is a center for business and services in many areas, including finance, retail, transportation, agriculture, and energy industries. The medical corridor within Billings provides some of the most advanced healthcare services in a four state area. Billings attractions include museums and theaters, Yellowstone National Park, which is just a morning drive away, numerous golf courses, hiking and camping, historical parks and monuments, and Red Lodge Mountain ski and recreational area, which is an hour’s drive away.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

As a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor, the faculty member will primarily serve the Environmental Studies program in the Department of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies and will deliver 21 instructional credits per academic year, including both in-person and online courses.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be able to teach courses in spatial sciences in addition to courses in their area of focus. We are particularly excited to review candidates with expertise in any of the following: sustainability and community resilience, water and natural resources, disaster studies, physical geography, environmental issues, impacts of climate variability, public policy, etc. Also, as research faculty, the Assistant Professor must develop a solid research agenda and publication record. Finally, the faculty member must provide service to the department, college, university, professional field, and community.

COURSE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mix of upper and lower division courses
Courses in spatial sciences
Courses in candidate’s area of focus
