Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS ) is an interdisciplinary and integrated academic unit that includes three professional schools: the School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, and the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences.

Community engagement and impact is a major thrust of the college mission’s to improve the health and wellbeing, and address health equity in southeastern North Carolina. This unit includes the Center for Healthy Communities ( CHC ) and Center for Workforce Development ( CWD ) which are essential to the mission of community engagement and CHHS . CHC provides backbone support with CHHS and the community for community outreach, research, and applied learning opportunities. CWD offers similar support by providing professional development opportunities for current and future health and human services professionals. These health-related efforts are designed to improve community health outcomes and promote health equity in collaboration with the counties of the Southeastern region of North Carolina. This mission is carried out through collaborative multi-disciplinary community and university-based research, education and training programs designed to help develop “healthy sustainable communities.”

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Community Engagement and Health Equity ( CEHE ) Program Associate serves as a member of the Community Engagement Team, which provides comprehensive community relationship management, experiential learning, training and development opportunities, and community-health grant, contract, and resource management support the community and the College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS ).

The CEHE Program Associate is responsible for:
  • Assisting with the management and coordination of existing Community Engagement (CE) programming, including the meetings of the Southeastern North Carolina Regional Health Educators Collaborative, the Region 8 ARPA (local health departments) Workforce Development project
  • Assisting with internally and externally funded projects and contracts
  • Upholding knowledge in local public health, workforce development, and health equity
  • Continuing to learn and grow, and have the ability to build authentic partnerships with faculty, staff, students, and community partners
  • Assisting with the day-to-day activities of the CHHS Community Engagement and other related workforce development health equity initiatives.
This is a time-limited (grant-funded) position with the option of renewal based on funding.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience
  • Master’s Degree in a health and human service field or administrative discipline
  • Experience assisting with the management of a community-based initiative or program with health-related outcomes
  • Experience supporting project initiatives that are externally funded
  • Agenda and report development experience
  • Grant and project management experience
