The Accounting Clerk III will serve as an essential part of the University service and transactional functions within the Student Accounts Office. The Accounting Clerk III is to provide transactional and service assistance via phone and email inquiries from students, faculty and staff. The Accounting Clerk III will provide an excellent level of service, ensuring students are being greeted and facilitating a welcoming customer service environment. The position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Accounts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exercise ability and expertise to handle complex and varied problems which require  analysis and  interpretation of account details, discretion and make decisions which have University-wide financial  implications.  

  • Perform routine clerical accounting duties within a fast-paced finance department while adhering to established standards

  • Resolve disputes with students, faculty and staff and problems of a technical nature which require a  frequent exercise of judgment and administrative ability.  

  • Coordinate and provide transactional and service assistance to all in person, phone and email  inquiries from students, faculty and staff. 

  • Responsible for enforcing University policies and gatekeeping functions. 

  • Reconciliation of daily Registration and Student Accounts transactions, payment processing, and  reconciliations 

  • Process and follow up on Human Resources tuition fee allowances which may require research and investigation with students and/or various University departments, including Deans and Directors.

  • Assist in researching and analyzing student account detail reports and process necessary  adjustments.  

  • Process payments and deposits, maintaining accuracy and using cash controls. 

  • Handle and provide support to incoming Student Contact Center ACD calls. 

  • Assist in follow-up of all Degree student registration issues, coordinate student outreach and  resolve matters of technical nature. 

  • Supervise and train temporary staff and student employees. 

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of 3-5 years of Student Accounts experience or banking experience Or administrative experience. 

  • Understanding of and the ability to communicate basic accounting principles

  • Must have the ability to coordinate transactions, handle problems of a sensitive nature where  proven discretion is required.  

  • High degree of communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a diverse, dynamic team of professionals.  

  • Familiarity with SCT Banner system or comparable administrative software is a plus.

WORK MODE

  • Hybrid/Remote - Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions.
