Opportunity The College of the Arts at Kent State University invites applicants for the position of Director of the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music, to begin July 1, 2023. The ideal candidate for this full-time administrative appointment will be a visionary leader possessing versatility, energy, and collegiality, with a passion for advancing the mission of this nationally recognized School.

 

Description: Coordinate and guide the teaching, research/creative activities, and service missions of the School; oversee budget (in a responsibility centered management environment), personnel, and program activities; coordinate faculty reappointment, promotion, and tenure reviews; supervise School staff; guide the development, implementation, and revision of new and existing academic programs; coordinate faculty workloads and academic course schedules; represent and promote the School within the University and to external communities; supervise student success initiatives through advising, recruitment, internship, scholarship and grant programs; serve on college and university committees, and as a liaison for School advisory boards; coordinate all committee activities within the School; participate in the oversight of the Kent Blossom Music Festival, the annual music festival presented in partnership with the Cleveland Orchestra.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Senior scholar and/or performing artist with qualifications to support an appointment at the rank of professor in a discipline within the School of Music; strong record of administrative experience, including successful fiscal management; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and the support of research/creative activity; terminal degree in a discipline represented in the School, or significant academic or equivalent professional experience generally commensurate to the rank of full professor; evidence of potential success as a fund raiser and community liaison; demonstrated focus on collaboration, interdisciplinary work, and curricular innovation and development; clear commitment to building and supporting a diverse and inclusive community.
