Job Description

The Department of History at the University of Missouri is seeking applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Public History (with the opportunity for a one-year renewal) w ith an emphasis in U.S. History. The successful candidate will be expected to teach each academic year an upper-division course in the field of Public History, two sections of our U.S. history survey course (either pre-Civil War or post-Civil War), as well as three additional courses. Ideally, at least one of these additional courses would be a specialized public history course, possibly engaging in contemporary questions of commemoration, memorialization, or historical memory and changing notions of identity and belonging. Applicants who have integrated inclusive pedological approaches into their courses, who have experience working with diverse range of people, and/or who can contribute to a climate of inclusivity are encouraged to apply and to highlight their experiences in their cover letter.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in History by time of appointment. Candidates will be evaluated on their teaching experience and research.

Your application should consist of a cover letter describing your teaching and research interests, a copy of your current C.V., the name of three references, and a brief description of the four courses that you would teach while at MU.
