Assistant Director of Financial Business Systems



Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Financial Business Systems is responsible for supporting the University operations by managing computer system activities and processes in the Financial Services Department. The Assistant Director provides leadership in assessing complex activities and providing solutions to continue modernizing existing core applications and building new applications. This role collaborates with other technology leaders and University stakeholders to define standards and develop innovative solution to meet the needs of financial business systems users that support the University’s strategic goals and mission. Duties & Essential Job Functions: 1. Optimizes functional/technical computer systems productivity and performance by acting as liaison between Financial Services Department and Information Systems Department.
2. Determines operational objectives by analyzing financial functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and needs.
3. Plans and implements system upgrades by analyzing system requirements; developing and coordinating schedules for upgrade testing and implementations; assessing, documenting, and integrating new upgrade functionality.
4. Improves systems by studying current practices; designing modifications; coordinating personnel activities with system functionality.
5. Coordinates the development and implementation of programs, special projects, research studies and other divisional initiatives to identify best practices and process improvements to promote functional efficiency and productivity. Leads software change management and user acceptance initiatives including testing, implementation, and software application training.
6. Provides project management over various initiatives (such as process improvements, and software conversions/upgrades) including, creating timelines and project plans, identifying and working with needed resources, and managing all aspects to completion.
7. Partners with subject matter experts across the University to document and understand user requirements, gap analysis between delivered software and existing business processes, and make recommendations for changes to current business processes to improve overall efficiency.
8. Monitors project progress by tracking activity; resolving problems; publishing progress reports; recommending actions.
9. Prepares staff to use system by updating system protocols; providing user documentation; training users.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience : • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Accounting, or other applicable business major and 3 years’ experience in a related accounting/financial systems environment, including experience in project management.
OR
• High school diploma and 7 years’ experience in a related accounting/financial systems environment, including experience in project management. Preferred Education & Experience: • Knowledge of and ability to implement and maintain PeopleSoft Financial systems.
• Knowledge of and ability to implement and maintain Jaggaer systems.
• Knowledge of and ability to implement and maintain Concur systems. Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: • None. Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training: • MBA, CPA or equivalent experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Knowledge of data analysis, data mining tools including data warehouse applications, MS Access, Advanced MS Excel, and other query and reporting tools.
• Skill in effective written and verbal communication.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook. Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations): • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs. Work Environment: • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This position is an on-campus, in-person position.
