Job Description

The Department of Psychology at the University of Hartford is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track position as Director of Clinical Training for the APA-accredited PsyD Program of the Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology, to begin in July 2023. The program seeks an experienced, energetic, and innovative leader with the ability to effectively engage faculty, staff, students and external constituencies in a collaborative manner. This is a 12-month position.

Essential Job Duties

The Program Director should have a strong record of excellence in academic leadership, teaching and scholarly activity, and show enthusiasm to continue growing the academic, research and clinical training aspects of the program. The successful applicant will teach courses in their area of expertise with release time for administrative duties. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. An active scholarly agenda with peer-reviewed publications appropriate for the rank of either Associate or Full Professor is expected. Service to the department, college, and university include contributing to clinical supervision, dissertation mentoring, academic advisement, and serving on appropriate departmental, college and university committees. The Director will provide leadership and work in conjunction with associate directors, core faculty and staff within the context of the department, college and university. Responsibilities include leading the APA accreditation process, including annual reports, self-studies and site visits, as well as recruitment, monitoring of progress, and evaluation of students. Oversight areas will include admissions, curriculum development and assessment, qualifying exams, clinical training (practica and internships), assistantships, and dissertation research. Applicants should describe in their letter of intent how their teaching and/or scholarship will enhance diversity and inclusion as well as how their leadership will foster such practices in others through faculty mentoring and curricular development.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or related field and previous academic leadership/administrative experience. Licensure or the ability to attain licensure as a psychologist in Connecticut within one year is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated engagement in social justice or multiculturalism in their approaches to teaching, scholarship and academic leadership.
