Job Description
The Department of Physics in the College of Arts & Sciences of the University of Hartford is accepting applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2023.

Essential Job Duties
The successful applicant will teach courses in physics at the introductory level for various programs and at the upper level for physics majors. There will be also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. An active research agenda with peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or other accomplishments in physics are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department, college, and university will include advising students in the physics major. Candidates with a commitment to mentoring and supporting diverse and under-represented student populations through advising, recruitment and retention will be preferred. The Department of Physics serves a large number of students in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Engineering, Technology and Architecture. A normal teaching load is 3 courses per semester. Class sizes are relatively small (< 25).

Required Qualifications
Required: An earned doctorate in physics or a related area is required; ABDs will be considered providing they document a degree completion date prior to August 16, 2023. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to scholarly activity. Candidates should show a willingness to include undergraduates in meaningful research.

Preferred: Candidates who have a theoretical and/or computational specialization with expertise in condensed matter, astrophysics and/or astronomy are encouraged to apply, but candidates in all areas of physics will be considered. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ technology in teaching.
