The Department of Mathematics in the College of Arts & Sciences of the University of Hartford is accepting applications for two full-time tenure-track Assistant Professors to begin in August 2023.

Essential Job Duties

The Department of Mathematics serves a large number of students in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture and College of Arts & Sciences, including majors in mathematics, the sciences, and pre-medical programs. The normal teaching load is 3 courses per semester and class sizes are relatively small (<25). Candidates should have a strong commitment to both undergraduate teaching and scholarly activity. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ technology in teaching and to contribute in our active undergraduate projects. The successful applicant will teach courses in the Mathematics Department’s data science major as well as courses such as calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, etc. There will be also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. An active scholarly/research/artistic agenda with peer-reviewed publications, presentations, performances or other accomplishments in mathematics, statistics or mathematics education are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department, college, and university will include advising students in their mathematics or data science major, participating in departmental and school committees, and contributing to student recruitment and retention. Candidates with a demonstrated ability to contribute to the university’s commitment to diversity are strongly encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications

Required: An earned doctorate in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, mathematics education or related areas is required before August 1, 2023; ABDs will be considered providing they document a degree completion date. Applicants not meeting these qualifications may not be hired.

Preferred: Ability to contribute to areas such as data science, differential equations, probability, statistics, analysis and algebra or mathematics education. experience teaching linear algebra, differential equations, or data science courses; open to learning and sharing innovative teaching methods; willingness to become an active member of the university community.
