The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Old Dominion University invites applications for a full-time, nontenure-track Lecturer in Spanish, effective July 25, 2023. The faculty member’s primary responsibilities will include teaching courses at all levels within the Spanish and licensure programs (4/4 load), directing the language licensure program, and engaging in service at the department and university levels.

With a highly interdisciplinary and international faculty pool, the Department of World Languages and Cultures at ODU offers major, minor, and general-education programs in Spanish, French, German, and World Cultural Studies, minor and general-education programs in Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic, as well as general-education classes in Italian, Latin, Hebrew, and Russian. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should have at least a master’s degree in Spanish, or a Masters in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Spanish. Applicants are required to possess native or near-native fluency in Spanish and experience teaching Spanish at the university or K-12 level.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to a candidate who specializes in second language acquisition and/or teaching methodology. Additional experience or expertise in one of the following areas would also be desirable: Spanish linguistics; translation; service-learning; or teaching languages for professional purposes.
