Job Description
The College of Engineering, Technology and Architecture (CETA) at the University of Hartford seeks two Assistant Professors of Architecture with the responsibility to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in (Position One) Sustainable Design, including resilient buildings, design studio, building systems, and technology, and (Position Two) Building Technology, including architectural structures and building materials with additional expertise in environmental systems. The Department seeks individuals who are committed to excellent teaching that engages and inspires students.
Essential Job Duties
Position One: Sustainable Design. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sustainable design, resilient buildings, design studio, and technology in the Department of Architecture within the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA). Candidates should have in-depth knowledge and expertise in the field of sustainable design, resilient buildings, building systems, and technology, such as renewable energy technologies, architectural and building technology, sustainable design technology. Ability to teach courses in sustainable construction, materials, and structures will be an added advantage. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ state-of-the-art simulation software and technology in teaching sustainable design courses. We seek applicants able to teach and conduct research in the broadly-defined areas of sustainable design. The program is particularly interested in candidates with research experience and a successful record of scholarship.
Position Two: Building Technology. The successful candidate will teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including required courses in building structures (strength of materials, design of steel and wood structures, design of reinforced concrete structures, and advanced structural systems) and building technology (materials and methods of construction, environmental systems, and/or sustainability), and architecture electives; and will aid in the development of new areas of building technology research at the graduate level. We seek applicants able to teach and conduct research in the broadly-defined areas of building technology. The program is particularly interested in candidates with research experience and a successful record of scholarship. Examples of areas of research may include, but are not limited to, next generation concepts for high performance, sustainable, and low-cost materials; new approaches to materials, processes and structures for sustainable built environments; and the integration of building design with structure, sustainable/resilient design, and environmental systems.
General Responsibilities: Successful applicants for both positions will be expected to remain active in creative/scholarly pursuits and seek opportunities for peer-reviewed publications. The University, College (CETA), and Department of Architecture are committed to nurturing and career development of faculty. Applicants will be supported through initiatives, including peer evaluation, training, and mentoring. Candidates will be expected to contribute and participate in department and school committees, academic advising, and contribute to student recruitment and retention. Significant opportunities exist for research collaboration with faculty members within the Department of Architecture, CETA, industrial partners, and across the University. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program.

A professional degree in architecture and a graduate degree in sustainable design are required. Excellent teaching, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to the position, as well as the commitment and ability to recruit new undergraduate and graduate students.
