Special Information

  • This position is available as a hybrid position, which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.
  • This position is also available as a remote option, which allows the incumbent to complete their work at a location other than an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. The incumbent may occasionally work in a shared site, but primarily will work elsewhere. This option will require the successful candidate to be present for in-person meetings, conferences, etc. as requested by the direct supervisor.


Job Description

The Communication Analyst, Senior will work with assigned IHD projects to support the dissemination goal of sharing project information in an accessible, timely, compelling, and evidence-based manner in order to reach a variety of audiences. Audiences may include practitioners, administrators or system leaders, funders, students, people with disabilities, etc. This position will report to Dr. Ronda Jenson and work on a range of education-related projects. Therefore, it is important that the person in this role is familiar with methods of using technologies to support teacher professional development. For assigned projects, the communications analyst will conceptualize and implement project specific comprehensive communication plans. Key skills necessary for this position include effective collaboration and leadership skills, excellent writing skills, keen sense of design, use of Adobe Creative Suite, and proficiency with WordPress.

Communications - 40%
  • Collaborates with the project team to identify opportunities for sharing project information and updates.
  • Assures that all project information is communicated in a manner that is timely, aligns with funder expectations, and is accessible.
  • Creates and sustains a consistent flow of project dissemination.
  • Prepares comprehensive communication plans regarding design, format, content of project information through various online and print formats, and platforms.
  • Takes leadership for carrying out communication plans according to set timelines.
  • Maintains expert-level functional and technical knowledge of a variety of communication and social media platforms.
  • Determines and communicates alternative strategies when issues arise.

Web Development and Management - 30%
  • Develops, revises, monitors, and maintains project specific website pages using the WordPress platform.
  • Responsible for website updates, to make sure all updates are in alignment with comprehensive communication plans.
  • Addresses front-end and back-end web development needs on the WordPress platform.
  • Provides ongoing troubleshooting and resolution of issues on project websites, while managing WordPress platform issues.
  • Updates digital media content on project websites, edits images when necessary.
  • Understands the best practice for ensuring website images, formatting and designs are accessible for users.

Visual Communications - 20%
  • Conceptualizes and produces compelling, accessible print and digital designs for branding projects.
  • Generates concepts for multiple forms of visual communications and styles such as infographics, storyboarding, report layouts, flyers, etc.
  • Develops design structures and conventions for project materials such as style guides.

Other - 10%
  • Supervises, monitors, and coordinates activities of student employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, or related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Any combination of related education, experience and training may be substituted for the above Minimum Requirements.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, WordPress, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with professional communication through social media.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing social media and web site analytics.
  • Experience with website development.
  • Knowledge of communications best practices.
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills, and the ability to switch easily between topics, audiences, objectives, and communication channels.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Superior grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills.
  • Balance competing priorities.
  • Experience with graphic design and layout tools.
  • Experience with multimedia design and publishing tools.
  • Understanding of the latest design and learning trends.
  • Broad understanding of web and browser-related issues.
  • Ability to take projects from concept to completion.
  • Ability to introduce innovative design to increase website traffic.
  • Ability to explain highly technical concepts to end-users in a non-technical manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively with project staff, students, project partners, and funders.
  • Ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $47,634. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
