DIRECTOR OF THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC

The J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts and the faculty, staff, and students of the School of Music enthusiastically seek nominations and applications for the next Director of the School of Music.The School of Music is acclaimed for its role in producing the highest quality of music educators and performers in the state, with growing national and international representation. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a community of educators and performers who are developing the next generation of music educators, scholars, performing artists, and composers for Texas and the nation.

Reporting to the Dean of the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts, the next Director of the School of Music will work with engaged faculty and appreciative students who value relationships, respect one another's artistry, and are committed to excellence in teaching, performance, and scholarship. The Director will be an inspirational and accomplished professional who, in coordination with the upper administration, will provide vision, leadership, and overall academic, administrative, and financial management of the School.Activities include, but are not limited to, strategic planning; support for instruction and research; personnel evaluations; class scheduling; preparation and management of budgets; support of faculty development and external grant writing; curriculum development; and leadership in prospect cultivation, donor development, and fundraising. In addition, the Director oversees program accreditation renewal processes and supports initial accreditation activities in the School. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected. Pursuit of external grants in support of research or creative activity, when appropriate and available in the faculty member's field, is encouraged.
