Notre Dame of Maryland University is seeking to hire a Director of Institutional Research. Reporting to the Chief of Staff & AVP for Planning and External Affairs, the Director of Institutional Research leads the University’s institutional research activities and initiatives, including preparing routine and ad-hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders that support data informed decision making and assessment.

Essential functions will include, but not limited to :

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and systems required to support the collection, organization, storage, analysis, and reporting of institutional data, and assure internal validity of institutional data.
  • Coordinate, prepare and submit required federal, state, accreditation and other external reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepare and respond to recurring and ad-hoc data requests from University stakeholders.
  • Analyze current and historic data required to identify trends. Work with University stakeholders to interpret data in terms of value, meaning and implication. Develop required narrative reports, tables, charts, and graphs as needed to prepare materials required for presentations and publications.
  • Develop research questions, design strategies and methodologies and implement research using contemporary analytical techniques.
  • Ensure University data, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is securely maintained in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and University policy.


  • Qualifications :
    • Knowledge: Master’s degree in data science, analytics, public policy, mathematics, related degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Experience : At least four years of progressively responsible professional experience in a similar field including knowledge of database management, quantitative analysis, and reporting methodologies is required. Experience in higher education and utilizing student information systems (e.g. Ellucian Colleague, EAB Navigate, Liaison EMP), data management tools (e.g. SQL, Excel, Business Objects SAP), and statistical software (e.g. SAS/SPSS/STATA) preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.
    • Skills: Demonstrated ability to work with qualitative and quantitative data and an understanding of statistical concepts, including experience with research design and analysis. Keen attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Excellent data management skills using Excel and/or SQL data mining tools. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Excellent time management, organizational, and documentation skills. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple, concurrent projects. Ability to work independently and collaborate with others, including establishing positive working relationships with other University stakeholders. Ability to produce reliable, accurate work with limited supervision. Familiarity with terms, definitions, standards, and sources of information in higher education. Discretion to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and/or personal information. Strong technical skills and experience with analytical tools (SPSS/STATA/SAS, SAP, Tableau, etc.) Advanced skills with MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
    • Working Conditions: Normal office environment (walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, etc.). Light physical demands such as bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and pushing may be required. Some occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
