We are searching for an experienced Department Chair 045441 at our Detroit campus location.

Essential Functions (Job Duties):

Overall supervision of medical student clerkships, electives and subinternships

Cultivate relationships at affiliated hospitals to expand educational programs for medical students and training programs.

Academic responsibility for affiliated residencies.

Recruit, select, and retain excellent faculty that have the skill sets for both personal success and to be a valuable asset to the Department.

Responsible for faculty promotions. Maintain an active role in faculty appointment renewals and provide oversight of the factors for promotion and/or tenure, including the completion of meaningful annual performance reviews for each faculty member within the department.

Assure mentoring for junior faculty, and when needed, for mid-career and senior faculty.

Work with Vice-Deans for Education, Research, Clinical Affairs and Faculty Affairs to develop and implement short-term action and long-term strategic plans for the department that are aligned with the needs and goals for the School of Medicine.

Work within the confines of financial support of the Department to achieve budgeted goals and maintain a positive financial condition.

Perform other administrative and job-related duties as assigned.




Qualifications:

Candidates must possess excellent leadership and negotiating skills, financial acumen and strategic vision to provide future direction for the department.

The successful applicant will hold an MD or DO and be board certified in Rehabilitation Medicine.

Experience in academic medical leadership is needed.

Candidate must possess experience with medical student and graduate medical education.

Research experience is preferred
