We are searching for an experienced University Counselor II/ Access Specialist 046603 at our Detroit campus location.

Essential Functions (Job Duties):

University Counselor II/ Access Specialist

1. The primary role is Initial Consultation/Urgent Consultation Specialist conducts Initial Consultations (ICs) with students and presents these cases to the CAPS Clinical Review Team. When available, handles Urgent Consultations, including crises and emergencies, with assistance from CAPS staff.

2. A secondary role, if there is a need, may be to provide psychological counseling services to students, including individual, couples, and group therapy.

3. Assist with training interns on how to conduct ICs. May include supervision of intern IC's. Possibility of supervising trainees' other clinical work.

4. Maintain confidential client files and appropriate record-keeping, according to professional, ethical, legal and IACS standards.

5. If needed, design, implement and present psycho-educational programming on a broad range of psychological issues.

6. Provide liaison and outreach to University programs/schools, housing, student organizations and other groups.

7. Serve as a resource/consultant to administration, faculty, and staff, aimed at bringing a psychological perspective to University concerns.

8. Provide interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaboration.

9. Attend staff and professional development meetings, contributing ideas for on-going improvements and strategic planning for CAPS.

10. Engage in continuing education to improve clinical skills.

11. In close collaboration with the CAPS Case Manager, network with community-based services as needed.

12. Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Clinical/Counseling Psychology. Applicants with doctorate degrees in these disciplines will also be considered.

2. Must currently possess full licensure or ability to obtain full licensure for independent practice in the State of Michigan.

3. Demonstrated high degree of sensitivity, interest, understanding, ability, knowledge and experience working with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. This value is strongly endorsed and embraced by CAPS.

4. Three years of post licensure clinical experience preferred, ideally in a University Counseling Center, working with individuals in varying states of emotional distress, including clinical emergencies.

5. Sensitivity, creativity and an understanding of developmental issues of both traditional and nontraditional college students.

6. Strong analytical and conflict resolution skills.

7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to give group presentations.

8. Strong organizational skills.

9. Reliable and innovative with customer service orientation.

10. Commitment to working with an enthusiastic and dedicated multidisciplinary team
