Description: Assistant Professor of Genetics and Microbiology

Starting Date: September 1, 2023

The Department of Life sciences at Carroll University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Genetics and Microbiology at the Assistant Professor rank, beginning Fall 2023.

Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in microbiology, genetics, or related.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a documented record of excellence in teaching and scholarship resulting in publication.
  • Candidates using molecular approaches to address biological questions with research that can be adapted for a primarily undergraduate institution are preferred.


Responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate will be a broadly trained biologist with expertise and research experience in molecular methods and/or microbiology.
  • Primarily teaching responsibilities will include some combination of Genetics (with lab); Microbiology (with lab); and Gene Manipulation and Genomics (with lab).
  • Upper-level electives in the area of expertise of the candidate will also be available.
  • Teaching opportunities in the University's general education curriculum, which has a strong emphasis on culture, are possible.
  • The successful candidate will develop an active research program with undergraduates.
  • Additional responsibilities may include advising, curriculum development, course coordination, grant writing, and other services to the biology program and the University.


Rank and Salary:
  • Assistant Professor (60% teaching, 20% scholarship, 20% service).
  • This position is eligible for tenure.
  • Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.


The Department:
  • The Biology Program is housed within the Department of Life Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • The program supports approximately 150 undergraduate majors.
  • Students and faculty in the department are active in field and laboratory research, study abroad programs, and internships.
  • The Department of Life Sciences has a full-time laboratory coordinator. Our laboratory teaching and research facilities are approximately eight years old.

  • Founded in 1846, Carroll University is an independent, co-educational comprehensive institution grounded in the liberal arts tradition.
  • The Pioneer Core general education curriculum has a strong emphasis on developing intercultural awareness.
  • Carroll offers graduate programs in several Health Science fields as well as in Business, Software Engineering, and Education.
  • Carroll University is in suburban Waukesha, 16 miles west of Milwaukee and 60 miles east of Madison.
  • The University serves approximately 3000 full-time and 500 part-time students.
