The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a position in Sociology at the rank of non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor to begin August 2023. Sociology and Anthropology is a combined major at HPU. A Ph.D. in Sociology or closely related discipline is required for the position.
The ideal candidate will have: (1) teaching experience at the undergraduate level; (2) positive teaching evaluations that also reflect enthusiastic and innovative instruction; (3) a research agenda with evidence of research potential and/or productivity; (4) a strong desire to engage in collaborative research with undergraduates; and (5) a willingness to potentially teach an Intellectual Discovery Seminar on a topic of the candidate’s choice. (6) an ability to teach qualitative or quantitative methods.
The teaching load is three-three, 4 credit hour courses in the fall and spring semesters and will typically include at least one section of Introduction to Sociology. We are especially interested in candidates whose primary area of specialization in the impact of the intersectionality of race and gender on American life. Secondary areas of interest are open but there are preferences for candidates who can teach courses on: different healthcare outcomes or media analysis. Promotion is possible, it would be connected to research and annual reviews.
