The American University Game Center (formerly AU Game Lab) at American University has several adjunct teaching positions available at various areas and levels of a graduate curriculum in Fall 2021 and beyond. The ideal candidate will hold a graduate degree in game design, digital art, interactive media or a related field, or alternatively have at least 5 years of professional experience in the games and interactive media. Teaching experience at the college level is highly preferred though not required. Course assignments and schedules will depend on the selected candidate's profile and strengths.

Two current opportunities are slated for fall 2021, one in digital game art, and one in our course in games, history, and society. The art course is intended to teach students the basics of making 2D art and animations for use in their game creations and has typically utilized the Adobe creative suite as a software platform, importing art and materials into the Unity game engine. A course description is available here: https://catalog.american.edu/preview_course_nopop.php?catoid=10&coid=45340 . The course on games, history, and society is a core course in our MA and MFA programs, and is an introduction to the academic study of games, play, and their role in society, and lays the foundation for using games for impact. A course description is available here: https://catalog.american.edu/preview_course_nopop.php?catoid=14&coid=57413

Typically our courses are 10-15 graduate students per section.

Both of these opportunities will be scheduled as live, in-person classes taught at the American University Game Lab in the Don Myers Technology & Innovation building on our campus in Washington, D.C. The university is committed to a safe, distanced, and effective roll-out of in-person activities while continuing to operate in best practice with guidelines from DC Health and the CDC. Please send letters of application, C.V., 8-10 samples of personal work (or links to online portfolio), samples of past students' work if available, and up to three letters of reference to: phelps@american.edu . Applications will be considered until positions are filled.
