Job Title:

Baruch College – Assistant Professor in Psychology for Climate Change Cluster Hire

Job Description:

The Department of Psychology in the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor with a specialization in climate and environmental psychology, conservation psychology, or the behavioral economics of climate change to begin in August 2023.

This position is part of an interdisciplinary cluster of new faculty across Baruch College studying climate change mitigation, impacts, resiliency, and adaptation. This faculty cluster will strengthen our existing research base, contribute to climate-related academic programs and opportunities for students (such as the Baruch/CUNY Climate Scholars Program and curricular design as noted in the current Baruch Strategic Plan), increase climate-related career opportunities for our graduates, and enhance climate-related collaborations across CUNY. Faculty in the cluster are expected to collaborate with one another, a new Data Science cluster, the new Entrepreneurship cluster, as well as appropriate centers and institutes.

Candidates should demonstrate strong research potential with evidence of an active research agenda related to climate change. The candidate should be motivated to seek intramural and extramural funding to support their research. The faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate environmental psychology and climate-related and sustainability-related courses, as well as foundational courses in psychology. Candidates must be committed to engaging undergraduates in their research. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are also important to the function of our school, the preparation of our students; to our scholarly endeavors and to address core problems within our society. Candidates should be committed to these types of DEI endeavors. We encourage potential applicants to explore the equity work that we are doing as a school on the DEI Committee website.

Several members of the faculty are also members of the doctoral faculty of various psychology training areas at CUNY’s Graduate Center, the Ph.D. degree conferring institution within CUNY (https://www.gc.cuny.edu/) and the successful candidate could be considered for a concurrent doctoral faculty position at the Graduate Center after establishing their research program at Baruch College.
