The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is hiring a Network Engineer within Information Technology. Reporting to the Director of Network Engineering, the Network Engineer provides network and voice system installation, problem determination, resolution, configuration, and needs analysis, to support the use of technology by faculty, staff, and students. This position provides support for all aspects of the various University data center facilities and communications closets, including operations and administration of voice and data network components, primarily located in Daytona Beach, Florida. This is a hybrid position comprised of teleworking for administrative tasks and on campus for hands on network engineer responsibilities such as implementation and support.

Ideal candidates possess experience with design, operations and management in a Cisco or Aruba network environment. They will bring a technical working knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including routers, switches (layer 2/3), firewalls, load balancers, remote access, DNS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN, QoS, and Metro Ethernet. They will be familiar with administering, troubleshooting and securing WLAN implementations. Ideal candidates will have working knowledge of administering cloud infrastructure with a focus on networking and security. Candidates should also be highly adaptable and possess sufficient resilience with a willingness to learn to effectively adjust to rapidly shifting technologies and prioritization. The ideal candidate has a CCNA or ACSA certification. This position will provide input on planning and direction for University Infrastructure systems and service activities for local and worldwide campuses.

As a member of the team, this position requires a strong communicator and team-player, serving as an individual contributor on various projects. This position is responsible for coordinating, communicating, and collaborating with other University and Campus Information Technology teams on strategic and tactical initiatives. The Network Engineer understands and exhibits a focus on a positive customer experience using excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications
  • Experience with design, operations, troubleshooting and management in a Cisco or Aruba network environment (LAN, WAN, Wireless, Firewall).

  • Solid working knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in Cisco or Aruba network equipment administration.

  • Working knowledge of network test equipment.

  • Working knowledge of local and wide area communication technologies.

  • Experience with BGP, EIGRP, OSPF and layer 2 technologies.

  • Experience with SNMP, Netflow, sflow and other Network Monitoring protocols and Methodologies

  • Extensive experience with Internet services and applications within the IP suite (DHCP, DNS, etc.)

  • Experience with telecommunications.

  • Working knowledge of Avaya IP telephony system administration.

  • Knowledge of structured wiring standards, codes, policies, and procedures in copper and fiber optic cabled environments.

  • Working knowledge in Cloud networking design and administration.

  • Ability to plan and implement tasks in a complex University environment.

  • Excellent knowledge of Information Technology trends and practices primarily in networking and telecommunications.
