The Opportunity:
The Hunt Library, located on the Daytona Beach, Florida, campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, is now hiring a Cataloging and Metadata Technician. This position provides support for the Head of Cataloging and Metadata and the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian. The Cataloging and Metadata Technician is responsible for copy cataloging, physical processing, and repair of monographic library materials in all formats to meet the information (teaching, learning, and research) needs of students, faculty, and staff and to comply with accreditation standards.

The Cataloging and Metadata Technician is responsible for copy cataloging, physical processing, and repair of monographic library materials in all formats to meet the information (teaching, learning, and research) needs of students, faculty, and staff and to comply with accreditation standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Copy Cataloging
- Manage the distribution of materials received for cataloging in a timely manner. Organize and track new materials waiting for cataloging or processing.
- Perform advanced copy cataloging, which involves searching OCLC and specialized databases.
- Ensure accessibility through EagleSearch (Primo VE) by following nationally-accepted standards and local practices for the creation of holdings and items records.
- Using templates, may perform basic descriptive cataloging of materials.
- Consult with other Technical Services staff as needed to ensure the consistent placement of materials within the collection.
- Coordinate cataloging special projects as assigned or approved by the Head of Cataloging and Metadata.
- Compile monthly statistics and create special reports as needed for accreditation and collection analysis purposes.
- Processing/Repair/Supplies
- Physically process new materials for library’s collection by performing or supervising the application of laminates or other protective housing as required.
- Evaluate and process existing materials in library collection needing repair.
- Maintain an inventory of processing/repair supplies, ordering necessary supplies within budget constraints.
- Provide input for the creation of the Electronic and Technical Services Department’s annual budget request.
- Library teams
- Serve on internal library committees and external campus committees.
- Initiate special projects and perform other duties as required.
- Supervision
- Hire, train and supervise student assistants.
- Co-ordinate student assignments and special projects.
- Track progress of student activities.
- Perform performance evaluations of student assistants on a regular basis.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience.
- General knowledge of the nature and function of libraries, library services, practices and procedures.
- Analytical skills with an awareness or knowledge of information systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic Internet end-user applications.
- Ability to work independently.
- Superior organizational skills; detail-oriented.
- Familiarity with MARC, OCLC, Alma or other library catalog system, Classification Web, Cataloger’s Desktop, Library of Congress Authorities, RAND, NASA, RDA Toolkit, Cataloging Calculator, and Worldcat.
- Some college preferred.
- 1 year of library experience preferred.
